Eve is an illustrator based in Derbyshire, UK.

Hey Eve. Can you tell us a little bit about your tape and your song selections?

Gob, kisser, chops, cakehole. My mixtape is a thematic listen focusing on the mouth, covering kisses to shouts and everything in between.

I’ve brought together a mix of alternative, indie and pop tracks which reference the mouth and its functions. Chew it up and spit it out, by all means.

What direction did you take with your cover art, and what was your process?

As I listened to the mixtape, I realised that there was a sense of angst and naivety - it’s exactly the sort of music my teenage self would have eaten up (pun intended). I wanted to create a cover which didn’t take itself too seriously - maybe in an attempt to counteract some of the musical choices.

I played around with the visuals of the mouth for a while, even taking photos of myself mouthing obscenities so I could see what an angry mouth looked like. In the end, I landed on the idea of adding googly eyes to an open mouth. It was a simple way of personifying the mouth but being unserious about it.

What are your fave album covers, records with a great music and artwork combo, or musical projects with a visual component?

Stacey Rozich’s cover for I Love You, Honeybear is just magic. It’s strange. It’s funny. There’s animals. AND it’s pink.

What did you listen to growing up?

My first CD as a little kid was A Present for Everyone by Busted. My taste in music has always been a mix of cheesy pop and alternative. As a teenager I was into emo, which then became indie.

And what’s on heavy rotation for you at the moment?

Nowadays I tend to listen mostly to throwback pop and disco. I usually play one song on repeat until I get sick of it and move on to another one. At the moment it’s Maxine Nightingale – “Right Back Where We Started From”.

What’s happening in your creative world at the moment?

Currently I’m concentrating on my portfolio, and incorporating more graphic design-y stuff into my practice. I’ve really been enjoying doing more applied illustration work - especially greetings cards. Mostly I’m just trying to escape my retail job!

Where can we find you?
