Hello Vonnie is an illustrator, artist and gardener based in The Netherlands.
Hoi Vonnie! Can you tell us a little bit about your tape and your song selections?
Recently I found this quote and it kept floating around in my head wanting to make something with it. It’s a quote by Albert Camus: “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”
I find the quote very inspiring. Especially now with summer coming to an end and looking forward to the winter. Wintertimes can get dark and sad so I wanted to make a playlist that reflected good memories, introspection and a sense of hope for better days.
What direction did you take with your cover art, and what was your process?
I wanted to visualize the feeling of keeping something close to you, treasuring and protecting it. I did this by using warm colours and placing the flowers within the character. The flowers respresent the invincible summer you carry with you on the inside.
What are your fave album covers, records with a great music and artwork combo, or musical projects with a visual component?

What did you listen to growing up?
I started with a lot of pop music, I absolutely loved the Spice Girls and No Doubt. Girlpower baby! After that I went into my angsty teenage years and dove in to more darker music. Eventually I climbed out of the pit into a mix of all kinds of things.
And what’s on heavy rotation for you at the moment?
Most of the songs on the mixtape have been favourites of the last couple of months. Andrew Bird – My Finest Work Yet, Kendrick Lamar – Mr Morale & The Big Steppers and MARINA – Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land have been on heavy rotation as well.
Other than that I’ve been playing a lot of k-pop artists like: Mamamoo, BTS, Twice, Red Velvet and Itzy while working and drawing. I was also greatly considering making a k-pop playlist for illustrated tapes.
What’s happening in your creative world at the moment?
I’ve been working on opening my own store where I will sell prints and stickers and other products in the future. I would love to make some clothing or accessories – it will be launched very soon! Other than that I’m working on client work. And working on personal projects. We have fun here.
