Heya Alice. Can you tell us a little bit about your tape and your song selections?

Shmelloo! I wanted to make a mixtape and have the songs be about, or mentioning, food — while not using it to reference something else like sex or love. A lot harder than I thought it would be… Also because I run the risk of it being obvious that the meaning of a song has gone completely over my head, ha. I wanted it to be a bit dumb and eclectic, which is good because that’s how I think it turned out.

What direction did you take with your cover art, and what was your process?

It was important to me to include each food, or at least their song, in the cover, so as not to leave anyone out. Having said that, I need to apologise to the peanuts and the beetroot.

What are your fave album covers, records with a great music and artwork combo, or musical projects with a visual component?

Hooray For Boobies, I loved the primary colours on this cover and the dumb pictures.

Hooray For Boobies – Bloodhound Gang
1999, Geffen Records
Artwork: Diana Hong / Kyle G. Kushner

I was obsessed with the “Viva Forever” single cover as a child. I thought it was so cool that it was them but 3D, mind blowing! Lol.

“Viva Forever” [single] – Spice Girls
1998, Virgin
Design: Joe@Virgin Art
Puppets: Aardman Animation

Miami Garden Club is such a good album. I love Kitty and I think the little falling teeth(?) go so well with the sound, especially the song “Miami Garden Club”, you can really sense the ethereal trickling of them.

What did you listen to growing up?

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, loving Kerrang! and Clubland lol. The first album I bought was Permission to Land by The Darkness. A banger. My mum also played a lot of prog rock, so it’s just a wild mix of Deep Purple, The Moody Blues, Triumph, DJ Cammy, Ultrabeat, Scooter, White Stripes, Bloodhound Gang, Metallica. That kind of thing.

And what’s on heavy rotation for you at the moment?

Billie Eilish, I love, I think Rosalía is so cool. Aside from that if I need to get pumped to take a walk down the street I will play something like, “New York Groove” — Ace Frehly, “Stayin’ Alive” — Bee Gees or like, “I Don’t Care About You” — Guns N’ Roses if I really need some motivation, haha.

What’s happening in your creative world at the moment?

I am going to stall at Stwff art market in Cardiff on the 18th of June! I’ve got some new t-shirts and stickers coming out — it’s my first time doing t-shirts, so I hope people like them!

Where can we find you?
