Hi Spencer. Can you tell us a little bit about your tape and your song selections?

My mixtape is for channeling romance, intimacy, and taking the edge off when you start missing someone you care about. I hope that you’ll find yourself dancing and feeling to some great, emotional, yet groove-inducing tracks. I always get sad when I take the subway home alone after a night out – these are songs I can play to remember there’s sweeties out there that I love and care about.

What direction did you take with your cover art, and what was your process?

My process started with blocking in big fun shapes randomly, and then figuring out what they could be. I knew I wanted to draw a scene including some folks dancing, crying, and listening to music.

I worked on this in photoshop using a basic brush, and had a colour scheme from a previous project that I limited to use on this cover.

What did you listen to growing up?

In my early teens: Taylor Swift, NevershoutNever, Blink-182.
Late teens: Alvvays and a lot of Ariel Pink.

And what’s on heavy rotation for you at the moment?

Lately, with the changing of the season I’m going into the typical 90s emo-sad artists… like Mazzy Star & The Cranberries.

What’s happening in your creative world at the moment?

Working in the editorial world of illustration, a recent project with Lyft just came out which was an exciting new avenue for me. Otherwise, just the same old editorial stuff. I’m planning on starting my Masters in Fine Arts next year, and I’m looking forward to learning to work in new ways.

Otherwise, I’m learning how to mix and bought myself a little DDJ set-up. It has been very fun.
