Hiya Alli. Can you tell us a little bit about your tape and your song selections?
The concept that I had for this playlist is centered around dissociation. I think it’s a really interesting thing when music makes you detach from yourself and from reality. While I feel that any music has the potential to make the listener zone out, only some music takes it a step further. I wanted to include songs that made me feel this way and hopefully make the listener feel the same. It pulls you out of the moment allowing for an escape from even the most mundane situations and makes time stretch on forever.
What direction did you take with your cover art, and what was your process?
I love using texture in my work and have been experimenting a lot with this gritty paper style which I wanted to incorporate into this cover art. I referenced a photo of myself and focused on emphasizing the frame of the door. I wanted the colorful sky in the doorway to represent what this playlist is about, stepping out of reality. This cover contrasts the simple black and white, realistic paper texture with a colorful, fractal sky

What are your fave album covers, records with a great music and artwork combo, or musical projects with a visual component?
Since I’m terrible at remembering the names of songs and artists I tend to only be able to identify music by the album covers.

What did you listen to growing up?
My dad had my brothers and I hooked on The Beach Boys for as early as I can remember. They were really the only band I could define my childhood with.
And what’s on heavy rotation for you at the moment?
Right now I’m falling back into my college freshman playlist that is a whole lot of Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Mitski, Beabadoobee, and Alvvays.

What’s happening in your creative world at the moment?
I’m finishing up my final semester at Columbia College Chicago, majoring in Illustration and minoring in Motion Graphics. School work has kept me busy so I’m just making slow progress on personal projects for now. Other than that, I recently created cover art for a few artists’ songs and hope to continue doing projects like that as well create more animated pieces.
Where can we find you?
